Imagine Bamboo...

Imagine Bamboo is an ambitious public art, engagement and creative enquiry project, now in its 5th year. Originally produced by Imagineer Productions and led by independent artistic director, Orit Azaz, it is now evolving through a network of partnerships and collaborations. 

Artists, designers, engineers and communities from across the UK, and internationally, have been coming together to explore the potential of bamboo – widely held to be one of the most important sustainable building materials for the planet. This short film sets the scene for a growing network of creative collaborators, excited about the potential for bamboo development in the UK:

Recent Highlights 

In 2025, Imagine Bamboo creative director collaborated with Nofit State Circus, Circus Zambia and Zukani Action Zambia on the Artist as Activist project in Zambia. The project invited local artists, communities and partners in one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Lusaka to explore what they can create with Zambian grown bamboo and recycled plastic waste. 

In 2024, we collaborated with NoFit State Circus to create BAMBOO, a spectacular outdoor circus theatre show that brilliantly demonstrates the incredible strength and flexibility of bamboo through circus acrobatics. The show toured UK and Europe in 2025 and a new iteration for 2026 premiered in South Korea before embarking on another summer of performances this year.

Imagine Bamboo partner Brilliant Bamboo is leading on exciting bamboo creative community engagement and education projects in Stoke-on-Trent - watch this space too for news of the 6th UK Bamboo Summit in October 2026.
